Teacher and class description:
Beth Laing studied at the Drama Centre in London, England, a three year acting program that has influenced the likes of Sean Connery, Geraldine James, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth and Michael Fassbender. Her teachers included: Yat Malmgren, a founder of the school who developed a system for actors based on his experience as an internationally renowned character dancer and also based on the work of Rudolph Laban; Reuven Adiv, who was a pupil of Lee Strasburg; and Doreen Cannon a student of Uta Hagen. It is through this unique combination of traditions that Beth has developed her teaching career over the last twenty years.
The actor will gain a complete instrument by combining the movement class and analytical systems of Movement Psychology pioneered by Yat Malmgren, with the exercises of Uta Hagen and Lee Strasburg. The movement work targets the body, the actor’s greatest tool by exploring the possibilities of physical expression. The exercises and scene study integrate the emotional and psychological with the attuned physical freedom. The discipline and focus that Beth teaches is crucial for any actor. Ultimately, the lesson is for each individual to discover how to be comfortable within their own skin while extending the range and potential towards a bold and gripping performance.
This series of classes is designed for those actors who have completed formal training and wish to continue learning while pursuing a professional career.
