Every year we get excited for Summer Theatre Camp, a.k.a. Toronto Fringe Festival! And while we dream of when we will be able to be a venue for Fringe artists – until that dream comes true we make the trek across the bridge to the westend to see what the Fringe does best: indie theatre that takes risks and explores everything from dance, solo shows, drama, musicals, and comedy.

Our top 5 picks this Fringe are…

5. CURIOUS K EXPLORES THE PALEOZOIC – Kenton & Lise Productions

I am a fan of the bizarre… and a robot singing about dinosaurs is up there. I am intrigued. https://fringetoronto.com/fringe/show/curious-k

4. ALL THAT REMAINS – The Hobby Horse Theatre Co.

Exploration of grief will always pique my interest! https://fringetoronto.com/fringe/show/all-remains

3. GOOD OLD DAYS – One Four One Collective

“..surreal, philosophical, darkly comedic adventure” sounds pretty neat and in the cast is our friend from the westside Assembly Theatre, Cass Van Wyck. https://fringetoronto.com/fringe/show/good-old-days

2. FRANKENSTEIN(ESQUE) – Silent Protagonist Theatre

Horror + puppets, I mean, that’s two of my favourite things (which is why I’m also the AP for Eldritch Theatre!) so I’m in for a 6 foot tall Frankenstein puppet! https://fringetoronto.com/fringe/show/frankensteinesque

And our #1 Fringe Pick is…

THE FAMILY CROW: A MURDER MYSTERY

The Pucking Fuppet Company

Adam Francis Proulx’s solo show with “Puppets! Puns! Murder!” is a puntacular production that we loved hosting last autumn here at Sandcastle as part of the Eldritch Theatre 2022/23 Season. So if you missed it then this is your chance: https://fringetoronto.com/fringe/show/family-crow-murder-mystery and don’t just take our word for it read some reviews from when it was here!

Excited to hear what shows made your list and how the magic of Fringe will help me find more theatre gems.
